This special features Lucille Ball as a middle-aged divorcee, Catherine Curtis, coming to grips with life on her own after twenty-three years of marriage.
Divided into three dramatic segments, the first act is done entirely as a monologue by Lucille. She moves from her secure home in the suburbs to a luxury apartment in a fashionable Manhattan neighborhood.
The second act, "First Night" brings Catherine from being alone in her new apartment to seeking her first romance with a widowed carpenter played by Art Carney.
The final segment, "First Love" pits Catherine against the fears and difference in age, when she falls for Peter, played by Joseph Bologna, who is 14 years younger. Finally, Catherine has the freedom and security she had been seeking.
Special Notes: This special was the #16 show for the week and won its timeslot with a 22.6 rating and 36% share of the audience.
