Lucy's longtime pal Viv vists, announcing that she might stay in Los Angeles permanently. Lucy is thrilled and has Viv move in with her. However, when Harry fires Lucy and hires Viv in her place, the duo quickly become enemies. After a few weeks, Harry can't stand Viv and Viv can't stand Harry.
Harry misses Lucy, while Lucy wants her job back. Viv is sick of Harry, and everyone is scheming to put things back the way they were before. Lucy comes up with a scheme to get Viv to quit, but Kim blabs the whole thing to Viv. In the end, everything ends up back the way it was.
Special Notes: This is Vivan Vance's best performance with Lucille since the days of The Lucy Show. The script is pure Lucy and Ethel. Vivian looks the best she has in years, with her hair now in a long flip and with its natural white color. Lucille seems especially pleased to be working with Vivian. In fact, they discuss the possibility of Viv returning to the fold permanently.
A pilot is planned for Lucie Arnaz, (see episode #96, "Kim Finally Cuts You-Know-Who's Apron Strings") and if it sells, then Lucille would need Vivian for support on the show. Unfortunately, fate is not kind. Lucie's pilot does not sell, and Vivian discovers a lump in her breast.
Sixty-three year old Vance will undergo a mastectomy the following year, as well as have a minor stroke. This is the last appearance by Vance on a regular Lucille Ball TV program. She does appear with Lucille one last time on Lucy's special, "Lucy Calls the President" in 1977.
