The Lucy Show

The women of the Danfield Fire Department are talked into staging Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra for their fundraiser show. Lucy and Viv both want the lead but a compromise is made and Lucy schemes her way into the lead as Cleopatra with Viv as Marc Antony. Professor Gitterman directs the amateur production.

The two dueling pals continueously try to upstage each other, almost ruining the show. During their death scene to the dismay of the pretentious director Professor Gitterman the girls try to out-do each other's dying acts over and over again, infuriating Gitterman.

Special Notes: Starting with this episode, there are new opening credits for the show. The cartoon characters that had been part of the opening of all past television seasons are retired. In their place are color stills of scenes from past episodes intermingled with publicity stills. It is decided to shoot the series in color from this point forward, although they are broadcast in black and white because CBS network does not yet have a policy of airing sitcoms in color. It wouldn't be broadcast in color until it went into syndication. Viv's hair is darkened slightly and restyled to give her a more youthful appearance.
