In thirteen years of marriage, Lucy's household budget has never been in worse shape, prompting Ricky to hire a business manager. After inspecting Mrs. Ricardo's accounts, Mr. Hickox congratulates his new client for having "the first set of books that have baffled me in twenty years."
When Lucy is presented with only $5.00 as spending money for the month, she hatches a scheme that will net plenty of extra cash. She purchases groceries for other tenants in the building and charges them to a credit account Hickox set up, pocketing the neighbors' money. "It's my hobby," Lucy tells one of her grocery customers, Mrs. Trumbull.
When Ricky spies the mountainous roll of greenbacks in Lucy's purse and Mrs. Trumbull's latest food order scrawled on a memo pad, "buy can All Pet", he immediately concludes that Lucy is playing the stock market and winning.
Following the "tip," Ricky buys stock in Canadian Allied Petroleum (can All Pet) and fires Hickox, who said it was a bad investment. Ricky soon pockets an easy $1,000 from the stock maneuver, splitting it with his "genius" wife. Ricky: "I suppose you are going to put it right back in the market." Aware of her $473 grocery bill, Lucy says, "Yeah that's what I am going to do with it, all right."
Special Notes: The Arnazes' actual business manager and Desilu vice-president was named Andrew Hickox.
