While Ricky holds his newborn son, Ethel recalls the time she and Lucy ran for president of the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League. The flashback takes us to the nominations meeting where the first order of business is approving a new member, Ruth Knickerbocker.
When the current club president opens the floor for nominations, Marion Strong and Grace Munson get nods, with Ethel's name being offered up as a presidential hopeful. Jealous, Lucy huddles with Lillian Appleby and promises her a new cashmere sweater and handbag in return for a nomination.
Mrs. Appleby agrees and there begins a battle for the club presidency between friends, Lucy and Ethel. The deciding vote belongs to new member Knickerbocker, so Lucy and Ethel separately entertain her, hoping to corral the needed vote.
Ricky sings "Cuban Cabby" in a Tropicana nightclub scene, before Lucy and Ethel break the news that they have both won the election and will share the presidential honors.
Special Notes: Doris Singleton's role as "Lillian" Appleby was changed to "Caroline" Appleby in later Lucy episodes. In this episode, Marion Strong is played by Margie Liszt. In all later episodes, Marion Strong is played by Shirley Mitchell. Jerry Hausner provided the baby cries in the scene introducing the flashbacks.
