Fred and Ethel Fight

I Love Lucy

Lucy and Ricky try to patch up the Mertzes' quarrel (Fred: "She said my mother looks like a weasel!") by inviting them each to dinner without the other knowing. They manage to set the couple straight all right, but not without ending up in a squabble of their own, with Ricky moving to the Tropicana.

To get him back, Ethel suggest Lucy try a subtle sympathy ploy: "Pretend you were hit by a bus." At the same time, Fred encounters Ricky at a local drugstore lunch counter, and he urges Ricky to be a hero by saving Lucy "from a burning apartment building."

The sight of Lucy, covered from head to toe with bandages, casts, and a splint, trying to escape from the "burning" building, is hilarious. But now Fred and Ethel are fighting again, this time over whose fault all this was. This leads Ethel to run home to mother.

Special Notes: The scene in the drugstore featured a huge advertising sign depicting Johnny, the "Call for Phillip Morris" man; Desilu endeavored to accommodate its sponsor whenever possible.
