The Ricardos and Mertzes are surprised when the Venetian Gondolier they met during their European travels, Mario Orsatti, arrives in New York to visit his brother Dominic. When Mario discovers a note on his brother's door explaining that he's at Sam Francesco, Lucy helps by translating the message to mean that Dominic is in San Francisco, three thousand miles away.
Wiith only ten dollars to his name, Mario cannot afford the bus fare to California. Club Babalu owner, Ricky obliges by giving the gondolier a job as a busboy. Diaster strikes, and Mario soon finds another job at Mr. Martinelli's pizza palor.
A visit by an Immigration official reveals that Mario is working illegally since he has no work permit and is in the United States on a tourist visa. Realizing that he may be deported if he returns to work at the pizza place, Lucy substitutes for her foreign friend by donning the apron of a pizza chef and setting about to fashion her first pie.
Lucy makes pizza like she does everything else, hilariously, and is fired after the fiasco. Ricky ends up paying for Mario's bus fare to San Francisco and the $210.33 in damages to the pizza restaurant, just before learning from Mario's brother Dominic that he is not in San Francisco, but was visiting his sick friend, Sam Francesco.
Special Notes: When the pizza dough is covering Lucy's head, Lucille Ball needed to suck out an air hole because she was having trouble breathing.
Bloopers: When Lucy is at the pizzeria attempting to spin the pizza the tray of dough balls in front of her goes from nearly empty to full between shots. Ricky is just about to give Lucy a check. In the next shot, Lucy has the check in both hands and Ricky is fixing his tie.
