I Love Lucy

While Ricky lunches with Richard Widmark and Fred goes off to a baseball game, Lucy and Ethel embark on a Grayline Bus sightseeing tour.

After taking in the local sights: the La Brea Tar Pits, Pacific Palisades, Holmby Hills, their tour winds through the tree-lined streets of Beverly Hills as the driver points out homes owned by various movie stars, Joan Crawford, Alan Ladd, Betty Grable and Harry James, Shirley Temple, Ava Garnder.

Lucy becomes annoying to the driver when she starts interrupting his tour talk. As the bus passes Richard Widmark's mansion, Lucy jumps up and addresses the tour entourage: "My husband is having lunch with Riachrd Widmark right now!" The bus driver is not impressed: "I'll be sure to tell Lana about it at dinner."

Spying a grapefruit tree in Widmark's backyard, Lucy yearns for a souvenir to go with the autographed Robert Taylor orange she picked up at the Farmer's Market. Warned by the driver that they will be left behind if they disembark from the bus, Lucy and Ethel decide to take their chances.

Getting the souvenir fruit proves more difficult than Lucy imagined, the tree is behind a huge wall that surrounds the Widmark estate. When she reached for a sample, Lucy loses her balance and falls over the wall, getting trapped in the process.

As she sneaks through the house to rejoin Ethel on the street, Widmark and Ricky arrive. Quickly, Lucy takes refuge inside a huge bearskin rug in the movie star's trophy room. When she tries sneaking out on her hands and knees, Widmark's St. Bernard dog, Cap, stops her and Lucy is exposed. Despite everything, Widmark remains a gentleman and even autographs the infamous grapefruit for Lucy.

Special Notes: The exterior shots when Lucy and Ethel get off the tour bus include Lucille Ball's home, where a similar wall surrounds her property. Richard Widmark didn't feel comfortable using the exterior of his house in this episode.

Bloopers: When Lucy and Ethel get off the tour bus to see Richard Widmark's house and the bus pulls away, Lucy and Ethel can be seen still on the bus as it drives away even though they got off.
