I Love Lucy

The Ricardos and Mertzes are arrested for speeding, (forty miles an hour in a fifteen-mile zone) in Bent Fork, Tennessee (population: 54). Ricky decides to pay the fifty-dollar fine and leave, but Lucy feels they have been taken advantage of.

When she rebels, the sheriff imposes a stiff twenty-four hour sentence. Just then, the travelers realize they have a friend in Bent Fork, "Cousin" Ernie. Ernie arrives and helps the westward-bound jailbirds in a scheme to escape by sawing through the steel bars with files.

While Ernie warbles "Birmingham Jail", the New Yorkers free themselves, but are caught by the sheriff and thrown back into the pokey. To clear his friends, Ernie agrees to marry one of the sheriff's chubby daughters. Teensy, the identical twin sister of Weensy.

The Ricardos and Mertzes finally manage to make their escape during a square dance, going-away party hoedown featuring the tubby twins singing "Ricoshet Romance" and manage to rope the twins and sheriff and make their getaway.

Special Notes: Guest-star Aaron Spelling would later be a producer of Lucy's last television series, Life With Lucy. This is Tennessee Ernie Ford's final appearance on "I Love Lucy."
