I Love Lucy

Unable to read the menu at a French restaurant, the Ricardos and Mertzes almost order "four orders of closed on Sunday." Because Ricky plans a French Revue at the Tropicana, Lucy hired Robert DuBois, the waiter at the bistro, to teach Ethel and herself some conversational French.

In return for the free lessons, Lucy promises DuBois a part in Ricky's French Revue. The girls become adept at saying pencil, pen, table, and cat in French. At first, Ricky is mad that Lucy has horned in (Ricky: "There's one word that's the same in Spanish, French, and English - No!"), but finally agrees to hire the waiter on the basis of his excellent "Louise" rendition.

However, much to Lucy's consternation, Ricky forbids her to "come near the club." She does her best to get into the Tropicana, first by disguising herself with a lampshade and then by stowing away inside a bass fiddle case. Nothing works until opening night when she appears as a fat matron with pince-nez, then quickly changes into a chorus girl outfit to join four other gals for "Valentine."

Special Notes: This episode is based on lucy's radio show, My Favorite Husband, Episode #66, "The French Lessons".
