The Moustache

I Love Lucy

When Ricky grows a moustache for a possible movie role "Moon Over Baghdad", Lucy takes reciprocal action. She doesn't like kissing a man with a moustache and insists he shave it off at once. Having a little fun with her, Ricky hints he might keep it on for good, even after the movie stint.

This really annoys Lucy, so she borrows a fake beard from Fred and attaches it to her face with what appears to be spirit gum. When Ricky comes home, she kisses him to give him a taste of his own medicine. He is amused by her joke, but asks her to remove the false whiskers. She can't. They've been glued on with Bulldog Cement, not mere glue, and Lucy fears she'll have to be a bearded lady for life.

What really makes her really distraught is that Ricky is bringing home the movie producer, Mr. Murdoch, for whom she naturally wants to audition. Her valiant efforts to hide the white beard behind the veil of a harem-girl outfit fail, and Ricky loses out on the role.

Special Notes: In this episode, Ricky shows Mr. Murdoch his scrapbook, which features clippings from "Too Many Girls" and his Copacabana dates, highlights of Desi Arnaz's early career. This is also the first instance of Vivian Vance and William Frawley doing a song-and-dance act in the show. This episode is based on lucy's radio show, My Favorite Husband, Episode #22, "Respective Mustaches".
